BMW and Local Motors have announced the winning ideas in the Urban Driving Experience Challenge after phase one of the contest closed on 16 October. Anthony Franze of Australia won first prize and a cash award of $7,500 with his design for a premium car sharing service called ‘BMW Reward Me.' Ford confirmed Monday its three-cylinder 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine will arrive next year in the 2014 Ford Fiesta. The unit is expected to achieve an output of about 123 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. The Blue Oval says the engine has a higher specific output than any engine in its stable.
The “cash-for-clunkers” legislation cleared another hurdle Tuesday, winning passage in the U.S. House of Representatives. That moves the proposed plan closer to reality and would offer up to $4,500 in vouchers to consumers who trade in older cars for new, more fuel-efficient rides.
